This historical fort was originally built in 1528 when Panfilo de Narvaez arrived in the area with 300 men; however, the first fort was not built until 1679. It  was an active fort during subsequent wars on American soil. Andrew Jackson and his men occupied the fort for a time in the 1800's.

An abundance of tragedy has occurred at this ancient site from floods to wars and much human emotion has been expelled here.

Big Bend Ghost Trackers arrived at this historical site at the appointed hour of 9 p.m. The first piece of business we were  given a tour and history lesson of the site by our tour guide Rod who was very knowledgeable of the site and it's history and himself having experienced a ghostly encounter at the site. BBGT members then begin the nights investigation. This night was special as BBGT had the opportunity to investigate using  a thermal imaging camera! Lisa placing audio recorders at strategic locations around the vast fort in attempt to capture an EVP. Lisa then posted a video camera at the graves of soldiers who bravely fought with Andrew Jackson . (these soldiers remains were discovered  some years ago 1/4 mile from the fort during the digging to built a sewer plant and reburied on the forts grounds.)

BBGT member Betty set up video cameras in additional locations and monitored them while other members Valynda, Scott, Ron and Lacey went about taking a series of photos.

The present day museum is built on the ruins of an old marine hospital and is perhaps the source of the ghostly activity that is occurring inside the building. BBGT members during a pre investigation experienced hearing the eerily pathetic cries of someone in pain coming from the left corner of the building. During the pre investigation we also experienced an event of  hearing someone whistling from an unknown origin in the area where the original fort ruins were but  we thought nothing about it until this night as our tour guide  shared the haunted history of the fort with us and were told about the ghost of Whistling Willie a pirate. Was this Willie that we heard???

After several hours and our bug spray no longer working we decided to end the nights investigation.

After reviewing the video, audio recorders  and photos we did conclude that the old fort is indeed experiencing paranormal activity and left the nights investigation with a little more knowledge and respect for those who "gave all".

Thanks to Rod for all of your assistance.
