This neoclassical architectural style home built in 1892 by J.W. Russ, Jr. as a residence for him and his mother. Better known by locals as "The Big House" was home to 5 generations of Russ family members. The Russ family were prominent members of Marianna society leading a life of privilege. J.W. Sr. owned a successful mercantile business that his son continued after his death. Family members have told stories through the years of unexplained sounds. Were they only the sounds of the aging home? Or was it sounds made from emotional imprints of memories from multiple generations of family members who had been conceived, born, lived and died at "The Big House"? In 1996 the home was deeded to the Marianna Chamber of Commerce for their offices and much renovation has taken place. Have they experienced unexplainable events? They are not talking!
